Safety and Etiquette - Digital Citizenship
Teachers are required to teach about digital citizenship as a part of the BYOT Elementary program. It is important to have conversations with students about their responsibility in using these devices to ensure their safety and the safety of others. In the long term, this should help to improve their use of these tools and minimize management issues.
As a school division, we have created two lessons for three elementary levels. These lessons are a starting point for teachers. It will be expected that teachers will continue to revisit these policies and procedures on an ongoing, “just in time” basis as it relates to topics being studied in class - and the purpose of this webpage. Each level includes links to additional resources to provide quality lessons that will allow students and teachers to examine digital citizenship in detail. Whenever possible, a specific grade level has been recommended for lessons to help avoid duplication of resources for students.
Level 1 – Gr. K-2
Level 2 – Gr. 3-5
Level 3 – Gr. 6-8
