Defining Online BehaviourThe introduction of the internet and personal devices has completely reshaped our perception of media. Before the internet, people simply consumed media. With the development of cell phones and social media people have been able to create and share media. Our online behaviour can have both positive and negative impacts on others and ourselves. This lesson looks to identify ways students can act appropiately online by considering "JOY" - Jesus, Ourselves, and Others.

III. Online Behaviour InfographicAll Regina Catholic elementary schools will be encouraged to display the Online Behaviour Infographic. This portion of the presentation looks to introduce the infographic to the students and to help them develop and express a firm understanding of each of the three key areas: Jesus, Others, Yourself.
Slide 5 of the presentation includes a blank version of the infographic - only the titles "Jesus", "Others", and "Yourself" are listed. To the right of the infographic are the reflection questions from the "Digital Life 101" and "Our Connected Culture" videos. As a class, decide which questions best fit under each of the the categories listed on the infographic. Have students explain why each question belongs under the category they have chosen. Slide 6 of the presentation introduces students to the complete infographic. Discuss the text and images listed as part of each categroy. Using the pull tabs located on the right-hand side of the presentation, lead the students in further discussions of each category. Ask students to try to provide "real life" examples. Slide 7 of the presentation asks students to apply the knowledge they have gained to create a personalized version of the infographic. Provide each student with a paper or digital copy of the blank infographic. Based on class discussions, they are to explain in their own words what Online Behaviour means in respect to Jesus, Yourself, and Others. They should also draw or include clipart that conveys the meaning of each behaviour. Students may require additional class time to complete this assignment, or teachers may choose to assign this for homework. |
